What do you need today?
Choose the resident action first. This page is built for quick repeat use across Fleetwood, Poulton-le-Fylde, Thornton-Cleveleys, Garstang, Catterall, Preesall, Knott End, Hambleton, Great Eccleston and rural Wyre.
How to check Wyre Council bin collection dates
Open Wyre Council’s official “Find out your bin collection day” page, enter your postcode, select your address and check your refuse collection calendar. For 2026, Wyre also publishes weekday urban and rural calendar records, but the postcode lookup is the safest way to confirm your exact property, collection day and schedule.
Official source verification for Wyre Council bins
This is an independent resident guide for Wyre Council bin collection users. It is not the official Wyre Council website and it does not replace live council forms, calendars, payments or service updates.
Calendar checked
Wyre’s official lookup asks residents to enter a postcode and select an address to find the local refuse collection calendar.
2026 calendar checked
Wyre’s 2026 directory includes weekday calendars for rural and urban areas, plus postcode search to identify the correct area.
Food waste checked
Weekly household food waste collections began from 13 April 2026 and run on the usual bin collection day.
Green waste checked
Green waste collection requires a subscription, has 22 fortnightly collections per year and a festive closure.
Last checked: 15 June 2026. Live council rules, prices, collection changes and festive schedules can change, so use the official links before making a report, payment, booking or trip.
3-minute Wyre bin setup for Fleetwood, Poulton-le-Fylde, Thornton-Cleveleys, Garstang and rural Wyre
Do this once to avoid most wrong-day, wrong-bin, late-presentation and missed-bin problems.
Open the official postcode calendar
Use Wyre’s “Find out your bin collection day” page and select your exact address.
Check whether your address is urban or rural
Wyre’s 2026 calendar directory uses weekday rural and urban records. Do not assume a neighbour’s calendar unless the address result matches.
Save each container separately
Record dates for grey general waste, red mixed recycling, blue paper/card, green waste if subscribed and weekly food waste caddy.
Use a 7am household rule
Wyre’s policy says bins must be presented by 7am. Use night-before reminders if you leave early or live on a fast route.
Keep side waste off the street
Extra residual waste beside the bin is normally treated as side waste and is not collected unless specifically authorised.
Wyre bin collection calendar 2026: postcode lookup, urban/rural calendars and normal bin day
People searching “Wyre Council bins”, “Wyre Council bin collection calendar”, “Fleetwood bin day”, “Garstang bin collection” or “what bin is it this week Wyre” need the same first action: check the official property calendar.
| User intent | Practical answer | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| Check my bin day | Use the official postcode lookup and select your address. | This avoids wrong urban/rural calendar assumptions. |
| Find 2026 calendar | Use the 2026 calendar directory for weekday urban/rural calendars. | Use postcode search if you do not know your area or refuse collection day. |
| Food waste day | Food waste is collected weekly on the usual bin day. | Put the outdoor food waste bin out by 7am. |
| Green waste dates | Subscribe to the green waste service and check collection dates. | You need a subscription for the green bin to be collected. |
| Christmas / New Year | Check council updates closer to the festive period. | Wyre says details are shared through local press and council information before the holiday period. |

Wyre item route helper: grey bin, red bin, blue bin, green bin, food caddy or recycling centre?
Use this quick helper for common Wyre disposal questions. It is built from the practical intent behind “what goes in my Wyre bin?”
Choose an item
Result: Select an item to see the likely Wyre route.
Most common Wyre mistake
Red-bin recycling must be loose. Bagged recycling affects the sorting process and cannot be recycled properly. Blue-bin paper/card should only be put out when more than half full.
Wyre bin types: grey, red, blue, green and food waste caddies
Wyre uses separate containers for general waste, mixed recycling, paper/card, garden waste and food waste. Check the local colour before copying advice from another council.
| Container | Use for | Do not use for |
|---|---|---|
| Grey bin | General household rubbish that cannot be recycled, including nappies. | DIY paint/oil, hazardous chemicals, bricks, rubble, electrical items, soil, turf and compost. |
| Red bin | Mixed recycling such as glass bottles/jars, food/drink cans, empty aerosols, foil, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, cartons and toothpaste tubes. | Nappies, carrier bags, unwashed items, broken glass, window glass, Pyrex, drinking glass and other non-accepted plastic. |
| Blue bin | Paper and cardboard including clean cardboard, newspapers, magazines, office paper, junk mail, greeting cards and gift wrap. | Greasy takeaway packaging, wallpaper, nappies, Tetra Pak/drink cartons and general rubbish. |
| Green bin | Subscribed green waste such as grass cuttings, shrub/hedge clippings, tree loppings, twigs, bark, leaves, flowers, plants and rabbit bedding. | Food waste, cooking oil, turf, soil, compost, wood, nappies, pet waste, plant pots, ash, vacuum waste, bricks, stones and rubble. |
| Food waste caddies | 5L kitchen caddy and 23L outdoor food waste bin for cooked and uncooked food waste. | Packaging, liquids, oils, milk and anything that is not food waste. |
Wyre red bin and blue bin recycling: what goes where?
Wyre splits mixed containers from paper/card. This section answers “red bin Wyre”, “blue bin Wyre” and “Wyre recycling bin” search intent.
| Item | Correct Wyre route | Resident note |
|---|---|---|
| Glass bottles and jars | Red bin. | Mixed clean glass bottles and jars, including lids. |
| Cans, aerosols, foil and foil trays | Red bin. | Aerosols must be empty and not pierced. |
| Plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays and punnets | Red bin. | Wyre points residents to number 1, 2 or 5 on pots, tubs and trays. |
| Tetrapak cartons and toothpaste tubes | Red bin. | Do not put Tetra Pak in the blue paper/card bin. |
| Cardboard, newspapers, magazines and paper | Blue bin. | Only put the blue bin out if it is more than half full. |
| Carrier bags and bagged recycling | Not red-bin recycling. | Red-bin items should be loose; bags affect sorting at the recycling plant. |
| Batteries, small electrical items and textiles | May be collected next to the bin on scheduled collection date if prepared correctly. | Check the official Wyre recycling pages for the correct local presentation method. |
Wyre weekly food waste collections: started 13 April 2026
Wyre’s new weekly household food waste collection service is now underway. It runs on the same day as your usual waste and recycling collection.
What households receive
A 5L indoor kitchen caddy, a roll of liners and a 23L outdoor food waste bin emptied weekly.
How to use it
Line the kitchen caddy, put loose food waste in it, tie the liner when full and place it in the outdoor food waste bin.
Put out by 7am
Present food waste at the front of your property by 7am every week on your normal collection day.
No liquids or packaging
Food waste can include meat, fish, bones, eggshells, plate scrapings, bread, rice, pasta, tea bags and coffee grounds, but no liquids or packaging.
Wyre missed bin collection: 7am presentation and 48-hour report rule
Wyre’s policy says bins and containers must be presented by 7am on collection day. If a correctly presented bin is genuinely missed, reports must be made within 48 hours of the scheduled collection day.
| Problem | Likely reason | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Bin not out by 7am | Crew arrival time cannot be guaranteed. | Set a night-before reminder and do not rely on past collection time. |
| Wrong materials inside | Contamination or wrong container. | Remove incorrect items and use the item-route checker. |
| Side waste left beside grey bin | Extra residual waste is not normally collected unless authorised. | Take it back onto your property; side waste left on the highway can be treated as fly-tipping. |
| Green waste frozen | Moisture can freeze green waste in cold weather. | Council may return by the end of the next working day, but if still frozen collection can be suspended. |
| More than 48 hours passed | Late missed-bin report. | Wait for next collection or contact the council if there is a wider issue. |

Wyre green waste collection: subscription, costs, 22 fortnightly collections and festive closure
You need a green waste subscription for your green bin to be collected. The service has 22 fortnightly collections per year and a brief closure over the festive period.
2026 subscription year
Wyre’s subscription year runs from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026 for the listed service period.
Early bird price
Sign up by 30 June 2026 for £40 for the first subscription and £35 for each subsequent bin added.
Standard price
From 1 July, the cost is £45 for the first subscription and £40 for each subsequent bin added.
Bin not included
The service does not include the purchase of a green bin. Request a green bin online if you do not already have one.
| Green bin yes | Green bin no | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Grass cuttings, hedge clippings, tree loppings | Food waste, cooking oil and general waste. | Only garden waste can be accepted. |
| Twigs, bark, leaves, flowers and plants | Turf, soil, compost, bricks, stones and rubble. | Heavy materials can damage bins and vehicles. |
| Straw, hay, wood shavings and rabbit bedding | Pet waste or litter except rabbit bedding. | Wrong material contaminates the green waste stream. |
Wyre bulky waste collection: large household items, waiting time and 2026/27 charges
Wyre’s bulky waste collection is for Council Tax registered domestic properties and is linked with Bulky Matters and Furniture Matters, helping reuse suitable items where possible.
| Bulky waste point | Wyre detail | Resident action |
|---|---|---|
| Domestic only | Collection must be from a Council Tax registered property and is not a business service. | Use business waste routes for commercial items. |
| Inside or outside | Items can be collected from inside. If outside, keep them dry. | Follow booking instructions carefully. |
| Waiting time | Wyre notes a minimum wait of 4 weeks because of current collection levels. | Plan ahead, especially for moves and house clearances. |
| 2026/27 cost | Fees list up to three items at £25 and additional items at £9 per item. | Check live charges before booking. |
| Alternative route | Household waste recycling centres can take many bulky items free of charge. | Use Lancashire recycling centre pages and book van/trailer slots if needed. |
Request a Wyre bin: damaged, lost, stolen, new build, flats and multiple occupancy
If your bin is damaged, lost or stolen, you can request a replacement. Replacement bins must be purchased from the council so they meet quality, safety and vehicle-compatibility standards.
| Request type | Wyre rule | Best action |
|---|---|---|
| Damaged, lost or stolen bin | Replacement may be refurbished but fit for use; administration and delivery charge is listed as £26 per bin. | Use the correct blue, grey, red or green bin request form. |
| Additional grey bin | You cannot buy an additional grey bin except for extra-capacity needs. | Check eligibility before requesting. |
| New build property | New properties need grey, blue and red bins. Bins remain council property and should not be removed from the property. | Ask the developer first; if they refuse, residents may need to pay. |
| New build bin set | Set of three bins is listed at £76. Set of four including green bin when subscribing is listed at £100 plus annual green waste subscription. | Order via official set-of-bins form only. |
| Flats / multiple occupancy | 1100 litre container cost depends on number, type and site security. | Landlords, managing agents and owners should contact Wyre for advice. |
