Sticker rule: paying is not the final step. The current licence sticker must be displayed on the garden bin before collections begin.

Hypodermic needles and syringes must never be placed loose in normal domestic rubbish.

Use a puncture-resistant sharps box. North Yorkshire says it can collect sealed yellow sharps boxes where returning them to the medical professional is not possible.

Examples can include infectious swabs, dressings and dialysis products.

If a healthcare professional treats you at home they should normally remove the clinical waste; where that is not possible, a council collection can be arranged.

North Yorkshire does not use one universal bank-holiday rule. For example, household waste and recycling collections continued normally on the summer bank holiday of 31 August 2026.

Christmas can differ
