Quick answer

How do I check Broadland Council bin collection dates?

Use Broadland and South Norfolk Councils’ official “Find your bin collection day” page. After selecting your property in My Area, you can see upcoming collection dates and access a full calendar. Broadland rubbish and recycling are normally collected every two weeks, usually recycling one week and rubbish the next, and Broadland also provides a weekly food waste collection on the same day as your rubbish or recycling.

Official Broadland Council Bin Collection Sources Used for This 2026 Guide

This guide is built around official Broadland and South Norfolk Councils waste pages and Norfolk County Council recycling centre guidance, not guessed collection dates.

Collection calendar

The official My Area calendar shows upcoming collection dates after you select your property.

6:30am set-out rule

Broadland asks residents to put bins out by 6:30am and recommends putting them out the evening or night before.

Weekly food waste

Broadland provides weekly food waste collection for households with individual or communal bins.

Missed-bin deadline

Missed collections must be reported on the same day or the day after the collection was missed.

Step one

Broadland Council Bin Collection Schedule 2026: Check Your Property Calendar First

Your Broadland bin day depends on your exact property, so the official calendar is safer than guessing from a neighbour’s routine.

The official collection page is the best starting point for searches like “Broadland Council bin collection”, “Broadland bin collection calendar”, “Broadland bin days”, “Broadland rubbish collection”, “Broadland recycling collection”, “Broadland garden waste collection” and “Broadland food waste collection”.

1

Open the official Find your bin collection day page

Use the official Broadland and South Norfolk page, then go into the My Area calendar to select your property.

2

Select the exact address

Collection dates can vary by property, especially near district boundaries, new-build roads, rural lanes, flats and shared access points.

3

Check rubbish, recycling, food and garden dates separately

Rubbish and recycling are normally alternate fortnightly collections, food waste is weekly in Broadland, and garden waste is an additional paid service.

4

Put bins out by 6:30am

Put bins out by 6:30am, ideally the night before, and mark your property number or name on every bin to help crews identify it correctly.

Local tip: if you live near Norwich, South Norfolk, North Norfolk, Great Yarmouth or Breckland boundaries, use your exact property result and not a neighbouring street’s routine. Broadland and South Norfolk share one website, but the Broadland app and Broadland food waste rules matter for Broadland residents.

Local area help

Broadland Bin Day Search by Area: Aylsham, Acle, Sprowston, Thorpe St Andrew, Taverham and Reepham

Residents often search by town or village, but Broadland’s official address calendar is still the correct way to confirm dates.

Aylsham and Reepham

Rural-edge roads and village routes can differ from nearby streets, so check the exact property calendar.

Acle and Blofield

Properties near Broads villages, lanes and new developments should use the official address result.

Sprowston and Thorpe St Andrew

Homes close to Norwich often confuse city and district services. Use Broadland’s calendar if your council is Broadland.

Taverham, Drayton and Hellesdon edge

Use the local council checker if you are not sure whether your property is Broadland, Norwich or another Norfolk district.

Brundall, Rackheath and Salhouse

New-build areas and village roads may have changing access, so do not rely only on old reminders.

Wroxham, Hoveton edge and Broads villages

Some properties close to district boundaries or waterways can have different waste arrangements from nearby streets.

Bin types

Broadland Rubbish Bin, Recycling Bin, Food Caddy and Brown Garden Waste Bin Explained

Broadland residents usually need four separate rules in mind: rubbish, recycling, food waste and paid garden waste.

Rubbish bin

Household waste

  • Collected every two weeks
  • Clean and dry only
  • Do not bag recycling
  • No plastic bags or black sacks

Food waste

  • £73 a year per bin
  • Collected every two weeks

Important Broadland rule: rubbish side waste is not taken under any circumstances. Extra rubbish must go in your bin for the next collection or be taken to a suitable recycling centre or disposal route.

Recycling

Broadland Recycling Bin: Clean, Loose and Dry Items Only

Broadland recycling must be clean, loose and dry. If recycling is bagged or contaminated, the bin may not be collected.

Accepted recycling includes paper and cardboard, clean foil trays and aluminium foil, tins and cans, empty aerosol cans except paint aerosols, plastic bottles, bathroom bottles, food trays, punnets, yoghurt pots, soup pots, ice cream tubs, margarine tubs, toothpaste tubes, food and drink cartons, glass bottles and jars.

Good recycling habits

Rinse containers, keep the lid closed, keep cardboard dry and do not hide recycling inside black sacks or carrier bags.

Extra recycling

Occasional extra recycling may be left in a clear sack or recyclable container, but it must be clean, dry and fit inside the wheelie bin.

Wet cardboard warning

Do not leave cardboard out in bad weather. Wet cardboard cannot be recycled and may not be collected.

Not accepted

No plastic bags, cling film, crisp packets, food waste, pouches, toys, polystyrene, nappies, window glass, light bulbs, textiles, sharps, garden waste or animal waste.

Need more recycling capacity? Broadland provides larger recycling bins free of charge where needed, but recycling must still be clean, dry and not bagged.

Weekly service

Broadland Food Waste Collection: Indoor Caddy, Outdoor Bin and Weekly Collection

Broadland provides weekly food waste collections for households with individual or communal bins.

Most individual households should have a small indoor caddy and a larger outdoor food waste bin. Line the kitchen caddy with one of the liners provided, or any plastic bag you already have at home, then empty it into your outdoor food bin. Place the outdoor food bin at the boundary of your property by 6:30am on collection day alongside your rubbish or recycling bin.

Accepted food waste

Raw and cooked food, fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, bones, teabags, coffee grounds, dairy, bread, rice, pasta, beans, out-of-date food and plate scrapings.

Not accepted

No cans, glass, trays, cartons, hard plastic, packaging, liquid food, oils, fats, gravy, milk, animal waste or non-food material.

Communal properties

Where a communal bin store is suitable, households may have an individual caddy and a red wheelie bin in the communal area.

Need liners?

Tie a liner to the handle of your outside caddy when you are running low so crews can leave more where available.

Smell-control tip: empty your kitchen caddy every 3 to 4 days, keep the outdoor caddy lid closed and avoid letting food waste build up until the caddy is completely full.

Missed collection

Missed Bin Collection Broadland: Same Day or Day After Deadline

Broadland missed collections must be reported on the same day or the day after the collection was missed. Late reports will not receive a return collection.

Do not report before 4pm on the day of collection because crews may still be out. Before reporting, check the bin was out by 6:30am, visible at the edge of the public highway, not too heavy, lid fully closed, not contaminated, and supplied by Broadland District Council.

1

Check it was due

Use the official calendar or Broadland app to confirm which bin was scheduled for your property.

2

Wait until after 4pm

Do not report before 4pm on collection day because crews may still be on the round.

3

Check common refusal reasons

Bins are not returned for if they were inaccessible, not out, too heavy, contaminated, lid up, wrong council bin or side waste only.

4

Report quickly

Submit the missed-bin report on the same day or the day after the missed collection.

Broadland side-waste rule: rubbish side waste is not regarded as a missed bin and is not taken under any circumstances. Put it in the bin for the next collection or use a suitable recycling centre route.

Large items

Broadland Bulky Waste Collection: Cost, Item Limit and Reuse Route

Broadland District Council provides a domestic bulky waste collection service for large household items you would move home with.

The council and Veolia work with Emmaus to reuse suitable items collected through the bulky waste service. If your item cannot be reused, it may be recycled or sent for disposal. The domestic Broadland bulky waste fee is £49 for up to three items and £12 per additional item up to a maximum of six items.

Number of domestic items Broadland listed cost Resident note
1 to 3 items£49Minimum bulky collection band.
4 items£61£12 extra item charge added.
5 items£73Check item eligibility before paying.
6 items£85Six items is the maximum domestic collection size listed.

Try reuse first

If furniture or household items are usable, try donation, selling, giving away or charity reuse before booking collection.

Bulky items only

The service is for large household items, not ordinary sacks of rubbish or DIY waste.

Not accepted examples

DIY, fixtures, fittings, bathroom suites, kitchen cabinets, showers, doors, sheds, snooker tables and fence panels are not collected through the bulky waste service.

Broadland-only extra

Broadland Electrical, Battery and Textile Collections: Weekly Carrier-Bag Service

Broadland offers a free weekly kerbside service for small electrical items, batteries and textiles from homes with individual bins.

Items are collected on your rubbish and recycling bin collection day. Place items in a tied, weatherproof, standard-size carrier bag or smaller next to your rubbish or recycling bin by 6:30am. Separate each waste type into a different bag: electrical items in one bag, batteries in another, textiles in another.

Small electricals

Examples include toasters, kettles, cameras, small power tools, hairdryers, straighteners, phones, chargers, lamps, shavers and calculators.

Batteries

Household batteries such as AA, AAA, C, D, 6V, 9V, mobile phone batteries and button batteries can be collected.

Textiles

Textiles must be dry and bagged separately. If wet or unsuitable, use textile banks or other reuse routes.

Not collected

No TVs, PC monitors, microwaves, white goods, lightbulbs, commercial items, vapes, e-cigarettes or items larger than a carrier bag.

Capacity note: if your bag is not collected but no note is left, put it out again the following week. The cage on the collection vehicle may have been full.

Bins and capacity

Lost, Damaged, New or Additional Broadland Bins

Broadland offers free replacement bins for bins that are lost, stolen or damaged, except where damage is caused by misuse.

Lost, stolen or damaged bins

Report the issue online. Broadland aims to replace your bin within 5 working days. If the bin is damaged, keep using it until it is repaired or replaced.

New property bins

Broadland new properties receive indoor and outside food caddies, a 240L refuse bin and either a 240L or 360L recycling bin. Garden waste is ordered separately.

Additional rubbish capacity

A 240L rubbish bin should provide capacity for two weeks. Extra rubbish capacity is only available where qualifying criteria are met.

Larger recycling bin

Broadland can provide a larger recycling bin free of charge, but recycling must remain clean, dry and not bagged.

Awaiting a bin? If you request a larger, additional, repaired or replacement bin, leave your current bin at the normal collection point as instructed. Failure to make the bin visible can close the request.

Tips and recycling centres

Broadland Recycling Centres: When to Use Norfolk County Council Sites

Household waste recycling centres in Norfolk are run by Norfolk County Council, not Broadland District Council.

Use recycling centres for items that do not belong in Broadland kerbside bins, such as some DIY waste, larger electrical items, hazardous waste event items, car batteries and other materials that need a specialist route. Always check the Norfolk County Council page before travelling because opening hours, vehicle rules, accepted materials and permits can vary by site.

Use for excess or awkward waste

Good for items that do not belong in rubbish, recycling, food waste, garden waste or small electrical collection routes.

Nearest site depends on address

Broadland residents may use different Norfolk recycling centres depending on whether they are near Norwich, Aylsham, Wroxham, Acle or other villages.

Check before travelling

Confirm accepted items, opening times, vehicle access and whether any special disposal days apply.

No trade waste as household waste

Business, landlord, builder and commercial waste must not be taken as household waste.

Holidays and disruption

Broadland Bank Holiday, Christmas and Extreme Weather Bin Collection Changes

Broadland collection dates can change around holidays, and garden waste can be affected by severe weather.

Use the My Area calendar or the Broadland app for the latest date changes. The app can send collection reminders and push notifications about disruption. Broadland’s garden waste service is suspended over Christmas and New Year, and garden waste collections can be delayed during extreme weather; when delays happen, residents are normally asked to leave bins out while crews catch up.

Normal weeks

Check the My Area calendar and put bins out by 6:30am.

Christmas and New Year

Garden waste collections stop for two weeks over Christmas and New Year. Check revised collection dates for rubbish, recycling and food waste.

Extreme weather

Garden waste collections may be delayed due to extreme weather. Leave bins out if the council asks residents to do so.

Do not guess bank holiday changes

Use the app or official calendar instead of assuming every bank holiday causes a one-day shift.
