Quick answer

How to check Blaby Council bin collection dates

Open Blaby District Council’s official bin collection date lookup, enter your postcode and select your address. Blaby refuse and recycling are collected on an alternate weekly schedule, food waste is collected every week on your usual collection day, and garden waste is an optional paid service collected every two weeks on the same day as recycling between March and November.

Verified source approach

Official source verification for Blaby District Council bin collection

This is an independent resident guide for Blaby Council bin collection users. It is not the official Blaby District Council website, and it does not replace live council forms, calendars, payments, bookings, collection alerts or service updates.

Official calendar checked

Blaby’s “Bin Collection Dates” service asks residents to enter a postcode and select an address for current refuse and recycling dates.

Collection frequency checked

Refuse and recycling are collected on an alternate weekly schedule. Food waste is now weekly on the usual bin day.

Food waste checked

Food waste collections started on 30 March 2026, with indoor and outdoor caddies delivered across the district.

Live actions linked

Use official pages before reporting a missed bin, ordering a bin, paying garden waste, booking bulky waste or checking Whetstone tip rules.

Last checked: 16 June 2026. Live council pages can change without notice, so use the official links before making a report, payment, booking or trip.

First-time workflow

3-minute Blaby bin setup for Blaby, Braunstone, Enderby, Narborough, Whetstone, Glenfield and villages

Do this once. It prevents most wrong-day, late-presentation, extra-cardboard, contamination, food-caddy and missed-bin problems.

1

Open the official postcode calendar

Use Blaby District Council’s collection-date lookup, enter your postcode and choose the exact property. Do not rely on a neighbour’s day if your route is different.

2

Record each stream separately

Save refuse, recycling, weekly food waste and garden waste dates separately. Food waste is weekly, while refuse and recycling alternate.

3

Use the 6.30am rule

Bins and caddies should be ready for collection by 6.30am at the edge of your property where the boundary meets the road or pavement.

4

Keep lids fully closed

Refuse and recycling bins must be presented with lids closed. Excess waste beside bins is not collected, and this includes cardboard from 1 November 2025.

5

Know the missed-bin deadline

If the council genuinely missed your bin, report it within two working days of the crew visiting your street and leave the bin out until it is collected.

Weekly food waste

Blaby weekly food waste collection: caddies, bags, start date and what goes in

Weekly food waste collections started across Blaby District on 30 March 2026. The service runs every week on your usual bin collection day, with food waste collected by a separate vehicle.

Caddy pack

Households received caddy packs during February and March 2026. Most homes received an indoor kitchen caddy and an outdoor caddy.

Flats and communal stores

Flats with outside bin stores normally receive a kitchen caddy, while a communal food waste bin is added to the bin store.

Caddy sizes

The kitchen caddy is 7 litres, the outdoor caddy is 23 litres, and communal food waste bins are 140 litres.

Bag rule

Food waste should be placed in a bag, tied at the top and transferred into the outdoor caddy. Compostable or plastic bags can be used.

Textiles and small electricals

Blaby small electricals and textiles: MIND charity collection route

MIND can collect textiles and small electrical items in full working order from your home for free. Requests for MIND bags and collections must be arranged directly with MIND Charity.

Contact MIND

Email midlandswarehouse@mind.org.uk or call 0116 278 0865 to arrange bags and collections.

Mark your bag

You can use your own bag, but mark it clearly for MIND so Blaby refuse or recycling crews do not take it by mistake.

Separate materials

Textiles and electrical items must be placed in separate bags.

Working small electricals

Examples include irons, kettles, hairdryers, radios, laptops, printers, calculators, small microwaves and small power tools.

Not the MIND route: large household appliances such as washing machines, cookers, fridges, tumble dryers, dishwashers and large televisions are not accepted through the small electrical collection list.

Assisted and clinical routes

Blaby assisted collections, clinical waste and sharps collection

Some residents need help moving bins or have medical waste needs. Use the official special collections pages so the correct team handles the request.

Assisted collections

For residents with genuine difficulty moving wheeled bins. If you are elderly, registered disabled or have no one to put bins out, check the assisted collections page.

Food waste with assisted collection

Blaby says assisted collection also includes the food waste caddy. Keep the outdoor caddy in the same place as your wheeled bins.

Clinical waste

Use the clinical waste disposal route for medical waste collection guidance.

Sharps

Sharps collections take place from 6.30am on Thursdays, with bookings needed by Tuesday for that week.

Whetstone household waste site

Blaby recycling and household waste site: Whetstone tip on Enderby Road

The local tip for many Blaby District residents is the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Enderby Road, Whetstone. It is managed by Leicestershire County Council, not Blaby District Council, so opening times, permits, asbestos rules and site restrictions should be checked with the county council before travelling.

Managed by county council

Leicestershire County Council manages household waste sites and tip rules.

Use for bulky alternatives

If a bulky item is not suitable for kerbside collection, the Whetstone site may be the correct route depending on site rules.

Permits may apply

Check Leicestershire County Council guidance for vehicle permits, opening times and restricted materials before you load the car or van.

Asbestos note

Blaby does not offer a cement-bonded asbestos collection service; the council says Whetstone tip may accept asbestos subject to county council guidance and permits.

Trust and feedback

Service trust, reviews and complaint guidance

No fake ratings or testimonials are used on this page. Waste-service feedback is case-specific, so use the correct official service route before relying on social media comments.

For live service issues

Use the missed-bin form, garden waste page, bulky waste booking, replacement bin page or Leicestershire HWRC route so the correct service team receives the issue.

For repeated problems

Keep a simple log: date, bin type, time presented, location, photo if safe, whether neighbours were affected and any note/hanger left on the bin.

For flats and shared bins

Check managing-agent, bin-store, access, side waste, food waste communal bin and contamination issues before assuming a council miss.
