Choose the resident action first. This page is designed as a practical daily hub, not a thin link list.
How to check Wealden Council bin collection dates
Open Wealden District Council’s official Bin Day Search, enter your full postcode, select your property and view your rubbish, recycling, garden waste and food waste collection information. The calendar can show your next scheduled collection date, usual collection day and downloadable calendars for the relevant services.
Official source verification for Wealden Council bin collection
This is an independent resident guide for Wealden Council bin collection users. It is not the official Wealden District Council website, and it does not replace live council calendars, My Wealden forms, payments, bookings or East Sussex tip rules.
Official calendar checked
The Bin Day Search asks for a full postcode and can display rubbish bin, recycling bin, garden waste bin and food waste container calendars.
Collection pattern checked
Rubbish and recycling are collected on the same day on alternate weeks. Food waste is weekly and may be on a different day.
Missed-bin rules checked
Bins must be out by 7am. Missed collections must be reported by 5pm the following working day.
Live actions linked
Use official pages before reporting missed bins, paying garden waste, booking bulky waste or visiting an East Sussex household waste recycling site.
Last checked: 18 June 2026. Live council pages can change without notice, so use official links before making a report, payment, booking or trip.
3-minute Wealden bin setup for Hailsham, Uckfield, Crowborough, Heathfield, Polegate and villages
Do this once. It prevents wrong-day, wrong-bin, late-presentation, contamination and missed-bin problems across Wealden’s towns, villages and rural lanes.
Open the official Bin Day Search
Enter your full postcode, then select your exact property. Rural addresses and similar house names can create confusion if you do not select the right property.
Download or save each calendar
Check rubbish, recycling, garden waste and food waste separately. Garden waste is chargeable and may be on a different day from other collections.
Use the 7am boundary rule
Place the correct bin or container at the boundary of your property by 7am on collection day. If it is late, the council may not return.
Set a household reminder
Use your phone calendar or the reminder planner below. For shared homes, make a kitchen note: green recycling this week, black rubbish next week, food waste weekly.
Check Christmas and weather disruption
Normal schedules can change around Christmas/New Year, severe weather or operational disruption. Recheck the live calendar before assuming a delay.

Wealden food waste collection 2026: weekly orange-topped container, compostable liners and start letters
Food waste collections are being rolled out across Wealden from 2026 under Simpler Recycling rules. Residents receive a letter confirming the collection day before collections start.
Weekly collection
Food waste is collected weekly by a separate vehicle and may be on a different day from your rubbish and recycling.
Orange-topped container
The orange-topped outside food waste container is the one to place out for collection.
Compostable liners
Food waste should be in compostable liners within the container. Loose food waste will not be collected.
Do not start too early
Do not use or fill the food caddy until after you receive the letter confirming when your food waste collections start.
| Food waste item | Route | Resident note |
|---|---|---|
| Fruit, vegetables, bread, dairy, eggs | Food waste bin. | Use a compostable liner. |
| Meat, fish, bones, rice, pasta, beans | Food waste bin. | Tie the liner before putting it outside. |
| Tea bags and coffee grounds | Food waste bin. | Keep packaging out. |
| Pet waste, bedding, oil, liquids, packaging, paper | Not food waste. | Use the correct rubbish or specialist route. |

Most common mistake
Garden waste, food waste, textiles, black bags, Pyrex, mirrors, light bulbs and hard plastics do not belong in the green recycling bin. Contaminated bins may not be collected.
Wealden bin types: green recycling, black rubbish, food waste and brown garden waste
Wealden’s collection system is easier once you separate the four main streams. Some older recycling bins issued before April 2013 may still be black, so follow the label and calendar rather than colour alone.
| Container | Use for | Key rule |
|---|---|---|
| Green recycling bin | Glass bottles and jars, cardboard, paper, tins, cans, foil, aerosols, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, bags, film, food/drink cartons and non-black plant pots. | Collected one week; extra recycling can be left in clear or white bags, but not black bags. |
| Black rubbish bin | Non-recyclable household waste such as dog waste/cat litter and nappies. | Collected the following week; lid must be closed and extra rubbish will not be taken. |
| Food waste container | Food waste in compostable liners after your service starts. | Weekly collection; loose food waste will not be collected. |
| Brown garden waste bin | Chargeable garden waste service: grass, leaves, hedge trimmings, small branches, flowers and weeds. | Fortnightly but may be on a different day; only licensed/subscribed bins are emptied. |
| Separate bag on top of bin | Batteries, vapes and small electrical items in separate bags on top of rubbish or recycling bin. | Large electricals go to a household waste recycling site. |
Wealden recycling collection: what goes in the green recycling bin?
People searching “Wealden recycling bin”, “what goes in my bin Wealden” or “Wealden Recyclopedia” need item-level answers. Use this table before putting unusual items in the green bin.
| Item | Wealden route | Resident caution |
|---|---|---|
| Glass bottles and jars | Green recycling bin. | Pyrex, drinking glasses, crockery, window panes, mirrors and light bulbs are not accepted. |
| Cardboard and paper | Green recycling bin. | Flatten extra cardboard and cut/fold to a size that would fit inside the recycling bin. |
| Tins, cans, foil, aerosols | Green recycling bin. | Empty and clean where possible. |
| Plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, bags and film | Green recycling bin. | Black bags, polystyrene, cling film and crisp packets are not accepted. |
| Food waste | Food waste container after rollout. | Do not put food waste in the recycling bin. |
| Textiles and shoes | Not recycling bin. | Use donation, textile bank or household waste recycling site route. |
| Batteries, vapes and small electricals | Separate bags on top of rubbish or recycling bin. | Place batteries in a separate bag and remove batteries from items where possible. |
Wealden missed bin collection: report by 5pm the following working day
A missed bin must be reported by 5pm the day after the scheduled collection day. If it is reported late, Wealden says it cannot arrange a return collection.
| Problem | Likely reason | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| Bin was not out before 7am | It may not qualify as a missed collection. | Use the next collection or take waste to a household waste recycling site. |
| Wrong bin or container out | Rubbish, recycling, food and garden calendars are separate. | Check Bin Day Search and correct the reminder. |
| Recycling contaminated | Food, garden waste, black bags, glass-in-wrong-place, hardcore or wrong items. | Remove contamination and check the item guide. |
| Rubbish bin overflowing | Lid not closed or extra rubbish left beside bin. | Extra rubbish will not be taken; use recycling, bulky waste or tip route. |
| Food waste missed | Disruption, wrong start date, loose food waste or wrong container. | Continue to leave out if instructed; report if neighbouring properties have been collected. |
| Garden waste missed | No licence sticker, no subscription, contamination, wrong date or late presentation. | Check subscription, sticker, 7am rule and accepted items. |
