Quick answer

How do I check my Chorley Council bin collection date?

Use Chorley Council’s official bin collection day checker, search by postcode, select your property and confirm which bin is due. Put bins on the kerbside by 7am on collection day because collection times can vary. Food waste is collected weekly on your normal bin collection day, while the main household bins are collected on their published schedule for your address.

Source verification

Official Chorley Council Sources Used for This Bin Collection Guide

This page uses Chorley Council’s own bin collection, missed-bin, food waste, garden waste, new bin and large item collection pages, plus Lancashire County Council’s recycling centre page for the local tip.

Official postcode checker

The Chorley bin collection days form asks you to search for your property using your postcode. This is the safest way to confirm your exact date.

7am collection rule

Chorley tells residents to put bins on the kerbside by 7am, because collection times can vary by route and by day.

Food waste in 2026

Weekly food waste collections started across Chorley on Monday 13 April 2026 and use a kitchen caddy plus outdoor caddy system.

Missed-bin report window

A missed collection should only be reported after 4pm on collection day, and the council will only return if reported within 2 working days after collection day.

Independent guide: CouncilBinCollection.org is not Chorley Council. Use this page to understand the route, then complete official actions on Chorley Council or Lancashire County Council websites. See our Sources & Methodology page for how official links are verified.

Find your date

Chorley Bin Collection Dates 2026: Use the Official Postcode Search First

Your Chorley collection date is property-specific, so the official checker is safer than using a neighbour’s routine, an old calendar screenshot or a social media comment.

The main search intent for this page is simple: residents want to know “what bin is it this week in Chorley?” The correct answer depends on your address, your normal bin day, whether you subscribe to garden waste, and whether there is a local collection issue.

1

Open the official checker

Use Chorley Council’s bin collection days form. Search for your property using your postcode.

2

Check the correct container

Confirm whether the next collection is for green non-recyclable waste, blue recycling, brown paper and cardboard, grey garden waste or your weekly food waste caddy.

3

Put bins out by 7am

Chorley Council says bins should be placed on the kerbside by 7am. Bring bins back in as soon as possible after collection.

4

Check issues before reporting

If a bin has not been collected, check Chorley’s bin collection issues page before submitting a missed-bin report.

Local resident tip: Chorley Borough includes areas such as Chorley, Adlington, Euxton, Coppull, Clayton-le-Woods, Whittle-le-Woods, Buckshaw, Eccleston, Croston, Mawdesley, Brinscall, Withnell, Wheelton, Charnock Richard and surrounding villages. Do not assume every PR postcode follows the same collection day.

Bin types

Chorley Green, Blue, Brown, Grey and Food Waste Bins Explained

Chorley uses separate containers for non-recyclable waste, mixed container recycling, paper/card recycling, paid garden waste and weekly food waste.

Container Use it for Common mistake
Green bin Non-recyclable household waste such as disposable nappies, wet wipes, tissues, plastic film, carrier bags, wrappings, polystyrene packaging, pet waste and other non-recyclable or non-reusable items. Do not put recyclable paper, card, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, cans, glass, batteries, electricals, hazardous waste or food waste in the green bin.
Blue bin Plastic bottles, plastic pots, tubs and trays, tins, cans, aerosols, foil, glass bottles and jars where accepted by Chorley’s blue bin guidance. Do not put paper and card in the blue bin because these belong in the brown bin. Avoid plastic film, bubble wrap, food waste, nappies and crockery.
Brown bin Paper and cardboard recycling. Do not put glass, cans, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, trays, food, garden waste, sanitary items, tissues, cotton wool, non-paper gift wrap or crisp packets in the brown bin.
Grey bin Paid garden waste collections such as grass, leaves, flowers, plants with soil removed, weeds, twigs, small branches, windfall fruit, houseplants, cuttings and chopped real Christmas trees. Do not put kitchen food waste, soil, turf, rubble, stones, plastic bags, cat litter, dog faeces, vacuum dust or fire cinders in the grey garden waste bin.
Food waste caddy Food waste such as fruit, vegetables, peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds, bread, pasta, rice, meat, fish, bones, eggshells, dairy, leftovers and small amounts of sauces left on food. Do not put liquids, oils, packaging, cardboard, recycling, garden waste or anything that is not food waste in the food waste bin.

Rejected-bin risk: Chorley’s crews record bins that are not presented, too heavy or contain the wrong items. If your bin has not been emptied for those reasons, the council will not return until the next scheduled collection day.

Weekly food waste

Chorley Food Waste Collection 2026: Weekly Caddy Collection From 13 April

A new weekly food waste collection service started across Chorley on Monday 13 April 2026.

Every household should have received a free starter pack with a 7-litre kitchen caddy, a 23-litre outdoor food waste caddy with a secure lockable lid, two rolls of kitchen caddy liners and an instruction leaflet. Your food waste collection day is the same as your other bin collection days.

What can go in

Fruit, vegetables, peelings, tea bags, coffee grounds, bread, cakes, pasta, rice, meat, fish, bones, eggshells, dairy, pet food and leftovers.

What must stay out

Liquids such as milk or oil, packaging, cardboard, other recycling, garden waste and anything that is not food waste.

Where to put it

Put the outdoor food waste caddy out alongside your other bins at the kerbside for 7am on collection day.

Flats and shared facilities

Chorley’s food waste service also covers flats and properties with shared waste facilities.

Smell and pest tip: empty the kitchen caddy into the outdoor caddy regularly, keep the outdoor lid locked and put the caddy out every week, even when your main bin changes.

Chorley Garden Waste Collection 2026/27: £40 Grey Bin Subscription

Chorley’s garden waste subscription runs from 1 May to 30 April every year, and the 2026/27 charge is £40 per bin.

You can subscribe to the 2026/27 garden waste collection service from 1 April 2026. If you renew for 2026/27, Chorley says to continue displaying your current 2025/26 permit until the new permit arrives so collections continue. If you have more than one subscription, you should receive a separate permit for every subscribed bin, and each permit must be displayed on the correct bin.

2026/27 price

£40 per bin for the year from 1 May 2026 to 30 April 2027.

Collection frequency

The service is fortnightly, with a minimum of 22 collections per year per subscribed bin.

Bin and permit

The council provides a 240-litre grey garden waste bin for every paid collection and sends a permit sticker to display.

Christmas and weather

There are no garden waste collections over Christmas and New Year, and collections may be cancelled during unsafe adverse weather.

What can go in the grey garden waste bin?

Accepted garden waste includes grass, leaves, flowers and plants with soil removed, weeds, twigs, small branches, windfall fruit, houseplants and flower cuttings, real Christmas trees chopped up, and vegetable waste from the garden only.

What cannot go in the grey garden waste bin?

Do not put large branches, treated or painted wood, soil, turf, stones, rubble, hardcore, sand, grit, cat litter, dog faeces, plastic bags, flower pots, trays, food waste, kitchen waste, vacuum dust or fire cinders in the garden waste bin.

Missed collection

Missed Bin Collection Chorley: Report After 4pm and Within 2 Working Days

Only report a missed Chorley bin after 4pm on your collection day, even if your bin is normally emptied earlier.

The waste crew may still be out collecting before 4pm. Chorley says it will only return to empty your bin if it is reported as missed within 2 working days after your collection day. If it was the council’s mistake, it aims to return within 2 working days.

1

Check the bin was actually due

Use the official postcode checker and confirm that the specific bin was scheduled for that day.

2

Check the bin collection issues page

If Chorley has already published a service issue for your bin type or area, follow that update instead of immediately reporting.

3

Check presentation and contents

Was the bin out by 7am? Was it too heavy? Was it contaminated? Was the wrong bin presented? Was it not at the kerbside?

4

Report after 4pm

If it was genuinely missed, use the official missed-bin route after 4pm and within 2 working days after collection day.

Do not use the missed-bin form if: the bin was put out late, contained the wrong items, was too heavy, was not presented at the kerbside or had a problem recorded by the crew. In those cases, Chorley says it will not return until the next scheduled collection day.

Bins and repairs

Chorley New Bin, Replacement Bin, Damaged Bin and Repair Rules

Chorley Council has separate routes for new bins, lost or stolen bins, damaged bins, repairs, abandoned bins and additional capacity.

New or replacement bins

Chorley lists a charge of £32.50 per bin for green, brown and blue bins. Bins are usually delivered within 10 working days.

Lost, stolen or beyond repair

If a bin is lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair, there is still a £32.50 charge for a new bin.

Minor repairs

The council may repair damaged or missing wheels, damaged or missing lids, and missing plugs from the lid hinge free of charge, usually within 10 working days.

Standard and small bins

240L is the standard size for most households. 140L small bins may suit households that do not produce much rubbish, generally no more than 2 people.

Colour change note: Chorley says from May 2025 any new bins delivered will have a grey body with a coloured lid appropriate to the bin requested.

Local resident tips

Chorley Bin Collection Tips Residents Learn the Hard Way

These are the practical checks that reduce missed collections, rejected recycling, food waste confusion and wasted trips to the tip.

Resident checklist before bin night

Use these checks when you want your bin emptied first time.

7am means early

Put bins out the night before if you may forget. A bin put out after the crew has passed is not a missed collection.

Keep food waste separate

Food waste now has a weekly collection and should not be put in the green general waste bin or grey garden bin.

Blue and brown are different

Blue is for plastics, cans and glass. Brown is for paper and cardboard. Mixing them can create contamination.

Garden permits matter

For garden waste, display the correct permit and make sure each paid grey bin has its own subscription.

Report after 4pm

Do not report a missed bin before 4pm because crews may still be out collecting.

Check before Christmas

Garden waste has no Christmas/New Year collections, and other bin days may change during festive weeks.
