Hart Council Bin Collection: Schedule, Dates & Calendar
Use this Hart Council bin collection guide to check your collection dates, understand what bin goes out this week, use the weekly food waste service, sort blue-bin recycling correctly, put glass in the green box, report missed bins within the right window, manage garden waste subscriptions and choose the nearest Hampshire HWRC.
What do you need today?
Choose the resident action first. This page is designed as a practical Hart help hub, not a thin list of council links.
How to check Hart Council bin collection dates
Open Hart District Council’s official “When is my bin day?” page, enter your postcode, choose your address and download the year-round calendar. Hart’s black household waste bin is emptied once every two weeks, the blue recycling bin is emptied once every two weeks, glass bottles and jars are collected separately in a green box, and food waste is collected weekly.
Official source verification for Hart District Council bin collection
This is an independent resident guide for Hart Council bin collection users. It is not the official Hart District Council website, and it does not replace live council forms, calendars, bookings, payments or service updates.
Official calendar checked
Hart’s “When is my bin day?” service lets residents enter a postcode and download a year-round bin calendar.
Collection frequency checked
Black household waste and blue recycling are both collected once every two weeks, while food waste is weekly.
Separate glass checked
Hart collects glass bottles and jars separately from the blue recycling bin using a green box.
Live actions linked
Use official pages before reporting missed bins, paying for garden waste, booking bulky waste or booking a Hampshire HWRC visit.
Last checked: 16 June 2026. Live council pages can change without notice, so use the official links before making a report, payment, booking or trip.
3-minute Hart bin setup for Fleet, Yateley, Hook, Blackwater, Odiham and villages
Do this once. It prevents most wrong-day, late-presentation, wrong-bin, missed-bin and recycling contamination problems.
Open the official bin calendar
Use Hart District Council’s postcode lookup, select your exact address and download the year-round calendar for your property.
Record each stream separately
Save black bin, blue recycling, food waste, glass green box and subscribed garden waste dates separately. Do not assume all containers follow the same route.
Use the 6am rule
Put bins at the point nearest the public highway where the collection vehicle stops. Collections are from 6am throughout the year.
Know the 48-hour missed-bin window
If your bin was genuinely missed, report it within 48 hours of the planned collection date. Use the diagnosis tool below before reporting.
Share a household note
Families, tenants, HMOs and flats should share a simple note: “This week: black / blue / food / glass / garden — out by 6am.”
Hart Council bin calendar 2026: black bin, blue bin, food waste, glass and garden waste
People searching “Hart council bin collection”, “Hart bin day”, “Fleet bin collection”, “Yateley bin collection” or “Hook bin collection calendar” usually need an exact property calendar plus simple collection rules.
| Service | Hart schedule | Practical resident rule |
|---|---|---|
| Black household waste bin | Emptied once every two weeks. | Use for non-recyclable household waste. Lid must be fully closed and no excess rubbish is removed. |
| Blue recycling bin | Emptied once every two weeks. | Use only for clean, dry and loose paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, tins, cans and empty aerosols. |
| Food waste caddy | Collected weekly. | Collected on the same day as waste/recycling unless Hart has told you otherwise; separate vehicle may arrive at a different time. |
| Green glass box | Fortnightly kerbside glass collection. | Glass bottles and jars only; use the provided green box and do not overfill it. |
| Garden waste green bin | Fortnightly if subscribed; 25 collections per 12-month subscription. | Two-week break over Christmas/New Year; no bank holiday day changes unless unavoidable delay. |
Calendar note: Hart’s garden waste day may not be the same as your normal black, blue or food waste day. Always check your downloaded calendar before putting garden waste out.
Hart weekly food waste collection: caddies, liners, same-day service and missed food waste
Hart introduced weekly food waste collections across the district. Food waste is collected on the same day as your waste and recycling, unless Hart has written to you with a different arrangement.
Indoor caddy
Homes received a 7-litre grey indoor caddy and starter liners to make daily food separation easier.
Outdoor caddy or shared bin
Kerbside homes use a green outdoor caddy, while communal waste areas may use a shared food waste bin.
Liners allowed
Hart says you can use compostable liners, supermarket liners or reused plastic liners such as bread bags; these are removed before recycling.
Separate vehicle
Your food waste may be collected at a different time of day from your black or blue bin because a separate vehicle collects it.
| Food waste can include | Do not include | Practical rule |
|---|---|---|
| Fruit/veg peelings, cores and skins | Liquids, oils, fats, custard, cream and gravy. | Drain liquids before putting food scraps in the caddy. |
| Teabags, coffee grounds, plate scrapings | Packaging, kitchen roll and nappies. | Packaging stays out even if it touched food. |
| Raw/cooked meat and fish, bones, shells | Clinical waste, cat litter, dog poo or pet waste. | Tie the liner and keep the outdoor caddy handle upright to lock the lid. |
| Bread, cakes, dairy, eggshells, rice, pasta, beans and pet food | Garden waste, cut flowers or anything that is not food. | Put garden material in the paid garden waste service or HWRC route. |

Most important recycling rule
Hart’s blue bin is currently for clean and dry paper/cardboard, plastic bottles, tins, cans and empty aerosols only. Glass goes in the green box, food goes in the food caddy, and plastic pots/tubs/trays are not yet blue-bin recycling.
Hart bin types: black waste, blue recycling, food caddy, green glass box and garden waste
The right container matters. Wrong items can cause missed collections, contamination or unsafe loads.
| Container | Use for | Do not use for |
|---|---|---|
| Black household waste bin | Non-recyclable household waste. | Garden waste, blue-bin recycling, food waste, small electricals, batteries and excess bags outside the bin. |
| Blue recycling bin | Clean, dry and loose paper/cardboard, plastic bottles, tins, cans and empty aerosols. | Plastic pots/tubs/trays, film, packaging, polystyrene, textiles, electricals, batteries, food waste, dirty pizza boxes and shredded paper/card. |
| Food waste caddy | Food scraps in a tied liner, placed in the green outdoor caddy or shared food bin. | Liquids, packaging, nappies, clinical waste, pet waste, garden waste and cut flowers. |
| Green glass box | Glass bottles and jars. | Overfilled boxes, broken window glass, heavy glass loads or general recycling. |
| Garden waste green bin | Subscribed garden waste such as grass cuttings, hedge trimmings, weeds, leaves, twigs, branches, cut flowers and prunings. | Food waste, soil, rubble, plastic bags, DIY waste and oversized branches. |
Hart blue recycling bin: what can and cannot go in?
Hart’s blue recycling bin rules are narrower than many residents expect. Keep the items clean, dry, loose and unbagged.
| Item | Hart route | Caution |
|---|---|---|
| Paper and cardboard | Blue recycling bin. | No shredded paper/card and no dirty cardboard such as pizza boxes. |
| Plastic bottles | Blue recycling bin. | Plastic bottles only; pots, tubs, trays, film and packaging are not accepted in the blue bin. |
| Tins, cans and empty aerosols | Blue recycling bin. | Keep items clean, dry and loose. |
| Glass bottles and jars | Green glass box, not the blue bin. | Use the provided green box or maroon wheeled glass bin if purchased. |
| Plastic pots, tubs, trays, film and packaging | Not currently blue-bin recycling. | Hart says future changes depend on a new Hampshire recycling sorting facility expected from Spring 2028. |
| Textiles, electricals, batteries, food waste | Use specific reuse/recycling routes, not the blue bin. | Electricals and batteries can be fire risks inside bins. |
Hart green glass box: bottles, jars, box cost and maroon wheeled bin option
Hart collects glass bottles and jars separately from the blue recycling bin. This is a fortnightly kerbside glass collection.
What goes in
Glass bottles and jars from your household.
Standard container
Residents are provided with a green box for glass collection. Do not overfill it because glass is manually handled.
Replacement box
Glass collection boxes cost £3 and can be ordered by calling 01252 622122.
More space option
A maroon wheeled bin for bottles and jars costs £45 if you need more capacity or find a wheeled container easier.
Hart missed bin collection: report within 48 hours, but check these causes first
Hart says residents should contact the Waste team within 48 hours of the planned collection date if they think a bin has been missed. Check presentation, contents, collection point and timing before reporting.
| Situation | Likely reason | Best next step |
|---|---|---|
| It is still early on collection day | Collections start from 6am and can happen later than your usual time. | Wait until the day has progressed before assuming a miss. |
| Bin was not at the nearest road collection point | Crew may not access bins from storage places unless assisted collection is approved. | Use the correct edge-of-property collection point next time. |
| Black bin lid not closed or excess rubbish left outside | Hart does not remove excess rubbish and the bin lid should be fully closed. | Recycle more, use HWRC routes or request additional capacity if eligible. |
| Blue bin contaminated | Wrong items such as pots/tubs/trays, food waste, dirty cardboard, textiles or electricals. | Remove wrong items and follow the blue-bin list. |
| Food waste caddy not emptied | Food waste is collected by a separate vehicle and may be picked up at a different time. | Make sure caddy is visible and wait before reporting too soon. |
| Garden waste not emptied | No subscription, wrong day, overweight bin, wrong items or unofficial bin. | Check garden waste subscription, weight and calendar. |
Missed Bin Diagnosis Tool: report, wait or fix the issue?

Reporting rule
Use the official missed-bin report only after checking collection date, 6am placement, correct collection point, closed lid, contamination, food-waste separate vehicle and the 48-hour report window.
