Source verification

Official Walsall Council Sources Used for This Bin Collection Guide

This page is built from Walsall Council’s own bin, waste, missed-bin, bulky waste and HWRC pages, not guessed collection dates.

Official collection checker

The checker asks for your whole postcode and shows brown, grey and green bin collection dates for your property.

6.30am set-out rule

Walsall tells residents to put bins out by 6.30am at the edge of the property and to keep lids fully closed.

2026 garden waste update

Walsall’s free fortnightly brown bin garden waste service restarts from Monday 30 March 2026.

Missed-bin timing

Missed collections should be reported on the next working day after the scheduled collection, before 11:59pm.

Independent guide: CouncilBinCollection.org is not Walsall Council. Complete official actions on Walsall Council’s website and use this guide to understand which page to open and what to check before you report, pay, book or travel.

Find your day

Walsall Bin Collection Dates 2026: Use the Official Postcode Checker First

Your Walsall bin day is postcode and address based, so the official checker is safer than using a neighbour’s pattern or an old calendar screenshot.

The main search intent for this page is simple: residents want to know “what bin is it this week in Walsall?” The correct answer depends on your address. Walsall’s checker asks for your whole postcode, not just the first part, and if you live in a flat with communal bins, Walsall tells residents to contact the management company.

1

Open the official checker

Use Walsall Council’s bin collection checker. Enter the whole postcode, for example WS1 1TP, not just WS1.

2

Check the bin colour due

The council page refers to brown, grey and green bins. Check whether the next date is your grey general waste bin, green recycling bin or brown garden waste bin.

3

Put the bin out by 6.30am

Place it at the edge of your property with the lid closed. Do not put extra bags next to your bin, because Walsall says no additional bags of rubbish can be left for collection.

4

Bring the bin back in

After collection, remove the bin from the public highway and store it on your property as soon as possible.

New-build warning: Walsall says it can take up to six weeks for new houses to appear on the system. If your new address is not available when you log in, use the council’s official route rather than guessing another address.

Bin colours

Walsall Grey Bin, Green Recycling Bin and Brown Garden Waste Bin Explained

Walsall uses a grey general waste bin, a green recycling bin and a brown garden waste bin.

Grey general waste bin

Use the grey bin for household waste that you cannot reuse or recycle. Walsall does not collect household waste that is not inside your general waste bin.

Green recycling bin

Use the green bin for clean, dry recycling. Recycling should be loose or placed in a clear bag, not hidden in black bags.

Brown garden waste bin

Use the brown bin for garden waste such as flowers, plants, grass cuttings, hedge clippings, tree clippings and leaves during the free seasonal service.

Food waste in 2026

Walsall says food waste collections will not be introduced for residents from 31 March 2026. Future arrangements are expected later.

Collection refusal risk: Walsall may not empty bins that are too heavy, too full, contaminated with the wrong items, presented late, not at the edge of the property or left with the lid open.

Green recycling bin

Walsall Green Recycling Bin: What Goes In, What Gets a Yellow Tag

All recycling in your Walsall green bin should be clean, dry and loose, or placed in a clear bag.

Accepted in green bin Keep out of green bin Resident tip
Plastic bottles with tops, margarine tubs, yoghurt pots, cream pots, clear food trays, empty carrier bags, newspapers, magazines, junk mail, envelopes, printer paper, shredded paper, food cans, drink cans, foil, aerosol cans, cardboard, cartons, plastic or cardboard egg boxes, glass bottles and jars. Black bin liners, bagged waste, bottles containing liquid, nappies, hygiene products, takeaway pizza boxes, dirty food containers, black plastic trays, textiles, electricals, polystyrene, food wrappers, crisp packets, hardback books, Pyrex, crockery, window glass, mirrors and garden waste. If a bin contains non-recyclable items, Walsall can place a yellow tag on the handles and will not empty the bin until the wrong items are removed. It will normally be emptied on your next scheduled collection.

Simple recycling test: is it clean, dry, loose and on Walsall’s accepted list? If not, do not risk contaminating the green bin. Use the HWRC, charity route, grey bin or official advice instead.

Brown bin

Walsall Garden Waste Collection 2026: Free Fortnightly Brown Bin Service

Walsall’s free fortnightly brown bin garden waste service restarts from Monday 30 March 2026.

The council says collection days may have changed from last year, so residents should check the updated online schedule before the service begins. Households are asked to put brown bins out by 6.30am on collection day.

Accepted brown bin items

Flowers and plants, grass cuttings, hedge clippings, tree clippings and leaves.

Not for brown bin

Pots, bags, containers, kitchen waste, food waste, cat litter and animal bedding.

Loose only

Garden waste should be loose inside the brown bin. Do not bag it or mix it with containers.

Check your date

The brown bin schedule may be different from last year, so use the official checker before the growing season begins.

Missed collection

Missed Bin Collection Walsall: Report on the Next Working Day Before 11:59pm

Walsall collects bins any time from 6.30am, so a bin should not be reported missed on the same day as the scheduled collection.

Use the official missed-bin report only on the next working day after the scheduled collection and before 11:59pm. Walsall says a report will not be accepted if you send it on the same day or if it has been more than one full working day since the missed collection.

1

Check the bin was due

Use the official checker to confirm your grey, green or brown bin was scheduled for that day.

2

Check the presentation rules

Was it out by 6.30am? Was it at the edge of the property? Was the lid fully closed? Was it too heavy or contaminated?

3

Wait until the next working day

Do not submit the missed-bin form on the same day. Walsall’s reporting window is the next working day before 11:59pm.

4

Use MyAccount

You must have an online MyAccount to report a missed bin collection. Walsall Connected hubs or phone help can support residents who cannot complete the form.

Do not use the missed-bin form if: the bin was put out late, not at the edge of the property, contained the wrong rubbish, was too full, had an open lid, or was too heavy.

Free repair route

If damage is only to the lid or wheels, Walsall says you can request a bin repair instead, and this is free of charge.

From 1 April 2026, one new or replacement bin is £42.57, two bins are £63.86 and three bins are £85.14, unless an exemption applies.

Bigger bin eligibility

Walsall may exchange a green or grey bin for a larger one free of charge if there are four or more people in the household, or at least three including someone who uses nappies or incontinence pads.

Local resident tips

Walsall Bin Collection Tips Residents Learn the Hard Way

These are the practical mistakes that cause missed collections, rejected recycling and wasted trips to the tip.

Resident checklist before bin night

Use these checks when you want the bin emptied first time.

6.30am means early

Put the bin out the night before if you might forget. A bin placed out after the crew passes is not a missed collection.

Edge of property

Walsall’s rule is edge of property unless you have an assisted collection.

No extra bags

Extra bags beside bins are not collected as standard. Use HWRCs, bulky waste or bin-capacity routes.

Yellow tag warning

Green recycling bins with non-recyclable items can be tagged and left until the next scheduled collection.

Brown bin season

Do not assume the brown bin runs all year. Check the current garden waste schedule when the season begins.

Tip proof

Take proof of Walsall residency before travelling to Fryers Road or Middlemore Lane.
